Blisters Equal Cash for Charity
Dozens of blisters and very sore feet have resulted in a team of Blackpool solicitors raising £2,000 for a children’s charity.
A four-strong team of legal experts from Blackhurst Budd recently took part in the Trek 50 challenge which saw them walk 50 miles around the Lancashire and Yorkshire border to raise money for children’s health charity MedEquip4Kids.
Although they were given 24 hours to complete the challenge the Blackhurst Budd team, made up of Iain Blundell, Faye Harper, Janine Cato and Katy Shakeshaft, actually completed it in 21 hours and nine minutes which resulted in them being awarded a trophy for the fastest mixed team.
The official result saw the Edward Street firm finish in ninth place out of 30 teams meaning they have raised £2,000 for MedEquip4Kids.
Trainee solicitor Iain said: “We were very surprised to be given a trophy when we crossed the finish line because we hadn’t particularly done a lot of training and therefore weren’t as prepared as we should have been.
“There were a couple of leg massages needed at rest points and a lot of blister plasters were applied so we would have to say it was difficult, but also enjoyable and there was no point where we were at risk of not completing it.
“It’s a tough challenge to set off at 7am and walk for so long but it was for a great cause and we are grateful to everyone that supported us and helped us raise so much money.”
The Blackhurst Budd team were supported by colleague Caron Bridson who was on hand in a support vehicle and ready to step in if required.
