Putting The Miles In For Wooden Spoon

The early morning runs, aching limbs and blisters won’t stop Craig Aikman who is determined to run the London Marathon in aid Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.

Craig who is a Director at Blackhurst Budd Solicitors, hopes that with the support of his colleagues, friends and family, he will raise £6000 for Wooden Spoon. Running with Craig as part of the Fylde Spoon Runners for the same charity will be Roger Banks, owner of the Carlton Hotel, St Annes and David Wiseman, Partner at Frank Wyles & Co. both of whom are heavily involved in Fylde RFC.

Craig said, “I am thrilled to be running the Marathon in aid of Wooden Spoon. This is one of the toughest challenges of my life. Knowing the money I raise will be used to improve the lives of children throughout the UK helps when the aches and pains set in.”

Wooden Spoon funds around 70 projects each year that support children and young people with disabilities and facing disadvantage. Sarah Webb, acting CEO of Wooden Spoon commented, “It is through the invaluable support of individuals, such as Craig, who take on personal challenges that the charity is able to fund projects that include respite and medical treatment centres, sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds and community-based programmes.

“In the last year, around 150,000 children and young people throughout the UK and Ireland benefitted. But with research showing that 1 in 20 children in the UK have a disability and 3.5 million children are living in poverty, we need the public’s help more than ever.”
